He then became a manager for TGI Fridays in 1979 at the age of 21. During his tenure there, David was part of the opening team of the company's 71st location. At that time, they were known as the "college" of the food and beverage industry, training their managers how to operate a high-volume, highly profitable location through system cost and controls. Fridays was also renowned as an innovator in creative menu and beverage offerings.In 1987 David joined a group founded by Stuart Sargent named Entertainment One. This was the group that started Studebaker's and several nightclub concepts. David was based in Chicago as a managing partner for six operations in the city, along with concepts in Pittsburgh; Columbus; Cleveland; Piscataway, New Jersey; and Honolulu. He was also the franchise representative to Osaka, Japan. In 1992 the group opened the first Truluck's in Houston, Texas, and by 1994 exited the nightclub industry. In 1998 the company moved its base to Austin, and the downtown location was the fourth one for Truluck's. David led the group as the managing partner. At this time, the name of the organization was changed to Truluck's Restaurant Group. Since then, David and the team grew the company to locations that operate in Houston, Dallas, Austin Downtown, Austin Arboretum, Southlake, La Jolla, Naples, Miami, The Woodlands, Chicago Downtown, Rosemont, Illinois, and Washington D.C. During this period of growth, David has worn many hats and rose to become chief operating officer in 2016 through March 2021 The heart of any organization is its people. The results have proven David's ability to recruit, hire, and retain leadership. David's commitment to the people of Truluck's was rewarded in 2018 with The Greater Austin Chamber of Commerce Company Culture Award.
