For 21 years I created, and managed the network, and telecommunications infrastructure of a BMW, and MINI dealership, with an international reputation. I saw us through four major construction projects, including opening a second location.I managed our Web sites for about ten years. I wrote copy for the marketing, and CM outreach as it moved from mail through the multiple technologies that I brought to Otto's.I purchased, and managed all of the PC's, laptops, servers, switches, printers, network security equipment, telephones, operating systems (95 to 10), and wireless equipment.I can confidently say that my efforts made the work environment much more comfortable, and productive, as well as having a great impact on morale, and the level of employee independence.I kept just two vendors - one for IT (IGI), and one for telecommunications (Comstar). This established relationships based on trust, and mutual interests. Evolved Otto’s from a pen-and-paper, “green screens,” 128k Internet to a secure, fast, stable, state of the art wireless, and wired networks for about 140 employees.Developed, and managed multiple Web sites, company Intranet, cyber café, file-sharing server, email, and VPN’s. One VPN for employees to work from home.Provided data extractions from dealer management system for marketing.Developed our phone system into a telecommunication network, integrating it with email, and employee cell phones. Added call reporting, and fax-to-email.Developed and maintained Information Security, and Computer and Internet Reasonable Usage policies, and Information Safeguarding program for vendors. Planned for the future, and never stopped learning.All of that needs to be said, but the most enjoyable, meaningful, and the real value of my work, was serving the needs of the employees. Giving them a work environment in which they could thrive was a rewarding, fulfilling experience – an opportunity that work seldom provides. I was lucky.
