Conservation Officer ServiceJob Title/Classification: Sergeant i/c Peace District North, September 2011 to March 2016Senior Conservation Officer, Ministry of Environment, Lands and Parks: Appointed to this position on account of my intrinsic value as a proven leader. Responsible for 1/5th of the land mass of the Province of British Columbia, providing a full range of conservation officer service support to ministry programs including problem wildlife control, environmental law enforcement including the Water Act and Wildlife Act, public communications, technical assistance and administrative support as well as assistance to local RCMP in Criminal Code matters.Job duties and tasks include coordinating the delivery of the sub-region conservation program. Preparing an annual work plan, supervising the development and execution of district work plans and assisting the regional enforcement manager in developing the regional work plan. Develop the budget estimates for the sub-region and monitor district expenditures. Supervise a staff of conservation officers, assign workload priorities and monitor activities, appraise performances and mentor through leading by example. Ensure that conservation officers are trained in all aspects of their duties, appraise conservation officer performance and take disciplinary action, if required. Conduct Stage I and II investigations of complaints against conservation officers. Approve all major enforcement and wildlife control projects in the sub-region. Authorize full spending authority within budget and to $15,000 on contracts (lab expenses). Ensure office and storage facilities meet ministry and program standards. Conduct operational, equipment and building audits for the sub-region. Ensure staff are trained as to safety hazards, identify and correct safety hazards and ensure staff have adequate back-up and safety equipment for high-risk patrols. Liaise with other program staff to resolve any competing demands.
