The American Society of Plumbing Engineers is committed to helping plumbing engineers design high-quality plumbing systems that protect public health and safety by developing consensus standards on plumbing system design practices. ASPE is a member of and approved by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) as an ANSI-accredited standards developer.

Oversee committee development of standards for composition, dimensions, and/or mechanical and physical properties of materials, fixtures, devices, and equipment used or installed in plumbing or mechanical systems and qualification standards for installers of various materials, fixtures, devices, and equipment used in plumbing or mechanical systems.

Management and supervision of the dimensional, design, application, drafting, performance test codes and miscellaneous standards activities of the Society, as designated by the Council on Codes and Standards. The standards developed by groups managed by the board are intended to be submitted to the American National Standards Institute to become American National Standards.

Advises and make recommendations to LEED Committees, working groups, and the LSC on technical issues; reviews and assesses the consistency and technical rigor of credits and prerequisites; develops and modifies credits and prerequisites to be incorporated into LEED in line with the direction of LEED improvements as they relate to water efficiency.

The Alliance for Water Efficiency is non-profit organization dedicated to the efficient and sustainable use of water. Located in Chicago, the Alliance serves as a North American advocate for water efficient products and programs, and provides information and assistance on water conservation efforts. A diverse Board of Directors governs the organization and has adopted a set of guiding principles and strategic plan.

The Green Building Initiative commercial technical committee has been established under American National Standards Institute (ANSI) protocols to develop Green Globes green building assessment and rating scheme as an ANSI standard.
