Successfully established Beatson Cancer Charity, as one of Scotland’s highest profile and most dynamic organisations through a complex merger process, engaging stakeholders including NHS and Scottish Government, whilst working with the Board to establish an effective governance, monitoring and evaluation structure in line with legal obligations and the highest standards of probity.Business set up, brand development, launch and strategic development of Beatson Cancer Charity, an independent organisation with a unique partnership with the NHS and the wider community, providing high quality patient and family support services through an award-winning Wellbeing Centre, throughout the wards and departments of the Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre, the busiest in the UK, and at cancer treatment facilities and in the wider community across the west of Scotland. Also, developed grant funding model for specialist clinical staff, innovative service developments, world leading research projects and cancer education and awareness initiatives. Leading exceptional organisational development of Beaton Cancer Charity in a complex and competitive environment from a zero-base, achieving income more than £14 million in the first 3 years, programme expenditure and grant funding of £14 million, growing to 75 staff, 20 Board Members, 250 volunteers, 80 Ambassadors.

Strategic planning, leadership, change management and rebrand of Yorkhill Children’s Charity (now Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity), the not for profit partner of the UK’s second busiest and Scotland’s leading children’s hospital supporting children and families from throughout Scotland. Growth in profile and income from £1.5 to over £5 million per annum and designing and implementing a £7.5 million capital appeal supporting the development of the new Royal Hospital for Children in Glasgow as well as the development and implementation of new grant funding model. Implemented a new organisational budget structure, website, database and ICT system. Established successful high value national and international partnerships and research initiatives and initiated a unique national conference on paediatric palliative care.

Leading the strategic planning and rebranding process at Highland Hospice and leading on redesign and implementation of a service delivery model including management of a £10 million new hospice development project and development of new palliative care services in a remote and rural environment including development of a virtual e-hospice function and mobile/outreach day hospice services. Overall income grew by over 125% in 4 years with new sustainable long term income streams established. Initiated and managed ‘The Space Between’ international palliative care conferences highlighting ground breaking palliative care initiatives and developed a partnership with two hospices in Malawi.

Lead international senior role in European/US acquisition and merger of Mercy Corps, a leading international aid organisation, and in strategic planning, organisational change management, fundraising, international rebranding and global programme development. Initiated and established the organisations European presence and sustainable income base through acquisition and merger with US charity. Key responsibilities included the management of all national and international funding and leading member of the international senior management team at Board level, as well as working on overseas project assignments. Led global organisational branding and positioning review with consultants in New York and Seattle, successfully presenting to an international conference in Beijing. Management of 2004 Tsunami emergency response programme.Successful partnership working with international funders, local and national government, public sector, business sector, the wider community and extensive major donor, trust, legacy, corporate, event, community and individual fundraising experience. Implementation of successful targeted and integrated fundraising appeals and direct marketing activities and personally securing multiple high value individual donations of up to £1 million

Senior leadership experience with Aberlour, Scotland’s leading child care charity, developing services for Scotland’s most vulnerable children, young people and their families, and partnership working with local authorities as well as social work and childcare professionals. Development of sustainable long term multi-million pound growth of the organisation’s funding income through targeted face to face and direct marketing donor acquisition and development activity, corporate, trust and major donor funding, community and event fundraising. Initiated and led a highly successful organisational identity definition and rebranding.

Responsible for business set up, strategic development and marketing of Concern Worldwide, a leading international aid organisation, from a zero base through designing, implementing and managing a funding, communications, marketing, public and media relations and international service delivery strategy. Responsible for international institutional funding and key role on international senior management team. Actively involved in the set up and development of the first Cross Party Group on International Development within the Scottish parliament. Initiated international petition in relation to banning landmines presented to UK Prime Minister.Through international response team, undertaking multiple overseas assignments involving management and leadership of emergency, rehabilitation and development programme delivery in conflict and disaster areas in Africa, Asia and Eastern Europe including managing the resettlement of refugees, working with unaccompanied children and family tracing programmes, establishing refugee camps, coordinating relief flights and aid distribution, medical and nutritional programmes, agricultural and economic development programmes, establishing education and income generation programmes for vulnerable groups and capacity building.
