About David W Cobb

I have practised as a Lawyer in both the Private and Public Sectors for more than 30 years, in both the Civil and Criminal fields.In this time, I have worked on a wide range of areas of law, with an emphasis on Public Law and Statute Law, and particularly Judicial Review, Human Rights and Mental Health Law. I have appeared in all levels of Courts in Scotland, as well as at Planning Inquiries and Employment Tribunals. I have also presented a substantial number of Criminal Prosecutions to Juries.I have recently completed periods as Junior Junior Counsel to the Office of the Advocate General for Scotland, presenting the Home Office case at Immigration Appeal Tribunals. I also worked part - time as an Case Investigator for the Scottish legal Complaints Commission I am a recognised Author in the field of Mental Health Law, and I have written three published works on this field, the latest focused on emerging Human Rights issues, as well as a number of Article3s for Professional Journals. I also wrote a Chapter for a for the Encyclopaedia of Scottish Environmental Law.Since 2015, I have been regularly asked to deliver Talks and Courses in the field of Mental Health Law and Adults with Incapacity Law, primarily for MBL Seminars. I occasionally chair Workshops on similar topics. Most recently, I provided a Keynote Talk to the Eighth Annual Conference of the Scottish Strategy for Autism.I am an enthusiastic supporter of the Third and Voluntary Sectors, and have been a Director of the award - winning Youth Music Project, Reeltime Music, for over 15 years. I have been a Member of the Board of the Mental Disability Advocacy Charity Partners in Advocacy.I am also supportive of Validity (formerly the Mental Disability Advocacy Centre (MDAC)) and Planning Democracy. I also seek to return something to the wider community by undertaking as much Pro Bono work as I can. I was part of the Free Legal Services Unit Group which won the Pro Bono Award at the Scottish legal Awards in 2016.
