Like many Physiotherapists, I got into the field passionate about elite sports… only to discover that the true “greats” in the field were in an even harder speciality: chronic pain. Driven by a desire to be truly helpful to those in the greatest need, I have pursued excellence in treating chronic pain whilst maintaining an interest in sports and human performance.One of the things that excites me about my work is solving complex problems, which requires seeing the big picture, and distinguishing the primary drivers of a problem from those which are secondary. Fast forward 30yrs:I’m a leader in clinical Physiotherapy, with a double Masters in Sports & Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy, and still love clinical practice and the opportunities to resolve complex problems.My passion for elite sports is perhaps stronger now than ever: I’m a cycling coach with >10yrs experience guiding road & track cyclists to achieve their peak performance potential. The sciences informing coaching practice and human performance, such as physiology, are the same as those underpinning Physiotherapy practice. The need to solve complex programming puzzles for athletes presents many of the same challenges as solving the problems of chronic musculoskeletal pain.
