I offer advice and assistance for anyone who attends and in particular, I am looking to incorporate anti-discriminatory and anti-oppressive practice through my engagement with families from all backgrounds.I am working with my own caseload offering support for families with issues around housing, children's behaviour and personal relationships. My close work with these families and the Family Support Worker in the office requires me to attend core groups, Child Protection Conferences, Team around the Family meetings, and other professional meetings. Spent a month (2 fortnightly summer camps) in Tomo del Agua English summer camp in Riopar where I was responsible along with 16 other monitors for 140 children aged from 7-16 in each summer camp. My work involved creating lesson plans around different subjects, being creative in thinking of different ways to engage the children during class time, monitoring and reacting accordingly to any negative or isolating behaviour and being a positive role model for the kids. Part of my role in the summer camp was to ensure the security and safety of the children throughout the day while they took part in various activities and games and while we were on excursions outside the camp. It was also my duty to ensure that the kids under my direct responsibility (24 x 7-10 year olds in first fortnight; 8 x 9-13 year olds in second fortnight) were up, ready, washed, and on time for breakfast in the morning, ensure that there was an orderly queue during shower time and to ensure that they maintained good personal hygiene and organisation of clean and dirty clothes and also to ensure that they were quiet and slept on time at night. This meant that I slept in a bed in the same cabin as the kids in case anything happened to them. I was also in charge of their money, health cards, and any medication they had. Show less
