Project: The Solid State Reaction and the Hydrolysis of Bioactive β-Tricalcium Phosphate based Bioceramics• Successful synthesizing high purity β-Tricalcium Phosphate (β-TCP) with solid state reaction• Material characterization of CPC (calcium phosphate cement) based materials with SEM, EDS, XRD, Raman spectroscopy and FTIR: increased four times of mechanical properties• Successful observation of hydroxyapatite formation, which exhibits structural and chemical properties similar to biological apatite• Treatment of bone diseases mixing β-TCP with a liquid phase results in the formation of a hard material (mainly hydroxyapatite) that can be used as a fixation device or a bone defect filler and will eventually be completely replaced by the body's own natural bone

Project: The Synthesis of Tripeptide• Focused on synthesizing L-lysine-D-alanine-D-alanine (Kaa) peptide, a well-characterized specific binding site for macrocyclic antibiotic, vancomycin, which inhibit cell wall synthesis in Gram-positive bacteria• The Kaa peptide were affixed to polymer screens to create new affinity capture mesh screen materials for drug discovery purposes• Successful preparation the tripeptides in four steps using basic organic synthesis techniques such as column chromatography and NMR for characterization• The synthesized Kaa peptide was then covalently attached to carboxylic acid groups through a condensation reaction. An analysis of captured compounds was performed in a rapid fashion with transmission-mode desorption electrospray ionization (TM-DESI) mass spectrometry
