I am currently part of the Clarity team in Cool Planet. Clarity is a Software as a Service (SaaS) platform developed by Cool Planet. It is a multi-purpose software in that it provides energy management and process optimization. Clarity gathers operational and energy data from a sites existing systems and equipment. As an Data Acquisition Engineer I am responsible for carrying out audits of a clients site in order to determine where the important sources of data reside, specifically looking at their existing systems (SCADA, BMS) and their current level of metering (electric, gas, steam). I also conduct a gap analysis to determine if additional metering is required in order to provide improved visibility of energy consumption.Following an audit I design a solution for integrating the existing systems and meters with Clarity. This requires having a basic understanding of IT/networking and communication/fieldbus protocols such as OPC, Modbus and BACnet. Where additional metering is required I determine the correct meter for each application and how they will be integrated with Clarity. This can involve designing new electrical panels for the purpose of housing the meters. All panel design work is carried out using AutoCAD. Throughout the lifecycle of each project I work closely with the client's engineering and IT teams as well as third party contractors such as automation and electrical. The contractors are responsible for assisting with systems integrations and the installation of new metering equipment. Where it is necessary I will visit a client's site in order to commission newly installed equipment. Once the client's systems and equipment are integrated with Clarity I am responsible for mapping the required data to Clarity and ensuring the data is properly conditioned and validated. At this point a 'digital twin' of a client's process is created.Having the ability to maintain a strong level of communication helps to ensure each project is delivered as efficiently as possible. I am required to develop detailed design & commissioning documentation for the client and drawings & quotation requests for contractors.Following completion of projects I may be tasked with providing training of the Clarity software to a client's team, this can involve leading training workshops. At this point all relevant documentation developed during the project is compiled into a handover pack and presented to the client.
