Polymer research centered on the creation of functionalized single-chain polymer and the subsequent intra- and inter-chain folding of said macromolecules to form nanoparticles.Undergraduate thesis research focused on the result of precise and random distribution of functional groups along a polymer backbone, and the conformation of polyolefin chains during collapse. An advanced polymer chemistry course was taken in order to work in the laboratory setting. Responsibilities in the lab included maintaining stocks of chemicals and equipment, cleaning and upkeep of lab space and appliances, and assistance for graduate students. Synthesies of novel compounds required group design and independent completion of reactions, as well as separation and characterization of unique monomers and polymers.
