MTL Group is a supplier of various types of Steel processed in different ways. They offer laser cutting, waterjet cutting, gas cutting, pressing, fabrication & machining or a mixture of these activities. Usually supplying to customer drawings, the main customers are from the Yellow Goods, Rail, Offshore & Defence sectors.I was responsible for the purchasing of all material & services for two sites in the Rotherham & Blyth with a current turnover of £50 million & spend in the region of £35 million. My main objectives are to drive down costs & improve the procurement operating systems. Since starting with the company in March 2008 I have driven down costs on none steel purchases (approx spend £8 million per anum) by £2.6million. This has been achieved by the utilisation of alternative manufacturing techniques, value engineering, competitive tender, consignment stock & bulk purchasing. I was also currently undertaking Six Sigma green belt training. Perry Slingsby Systems are manufacturers of remote operated vehicles, rescue submarines & various other types of sub-sea equipment. I was responsible for the purchasing & stores departments with a spend responsibility of £6 to £9 million my main emphasis has been on the driving down of cost's by utilising overseas procurement, value engineering, introduction of consignment stocks & the utilisation of new suppliers. In addition on time deliveries were considerably improved by expediting of selected suppliers on a more frequent basis. Qualter Hall is a company providing design & supply for large engineering projects to clients like BNFL,MOD & the railway industry.In this position I was responsible for the day to day running of a purchasing department made up of 7 staff with a total annual spend in the region of £4 million. Qualter Hall's main area of expenditure was the procurement of sub contract fabrication & machining which was well suited to my background. Morgan Europe is a company providing design & supply of steel rolling mill equipment for steel plants all around Europe. They are a wholly owned subsidiary of Morgan Construction Company in the USA who are the world leader in the supply of rod mills. As purchasing manager I was responsible for the purchasing of all equipment and services required by Morgan Europe with an annual spend of £2 to £4 million. and Chargehand Starweld Engineering is a general fabricator. (4 years apprenticeship served with this firm where I was subsequently made Chargehand) After finishing my apprenticeship at the age of 21 with this company, I was promoted to Chargehand and given the responsibility of the day to day running of the workshop. My duties included supervision, ordering of steel plate and section, estimating costs on profiling work, completion of daily time sheets for 10 men, shop floor plating and welding. I was also taught to weld and am conversant with M.M.A, M.I.G, and Automatic Plasma.
