Expanded worldwide operations and capabilities for a company that purchases and sells pre-owned semiconductor capital equipment. Position included all aspects of Operations, logistics planning, project management, facility planning, and development of refurbishment operations. Planned and developed refurbishment operations utilizing the Nijmegen, Holland facility. Planned and managed the shutdown, decommissioning, removal, crating and shipping of over 400 manufacturing tools, including ancillaries and spare parts, from Agere Semiconductor facility in Orlando, FL in less than 6 months. Managed and negotiated land, sea and air logistics contracts for national and international tool shipments. Evaluated equipment for purchase and developed purchasing and sales strategies. Managed wafer-fab layout, equipment installation/de-installation, startup, outsourcing of specialized jobs involving multiple vendors as well as writing specifications, interviewing and qualifying vendors, evaluating equipment failures and repairs and managing vendors on customer sites. Job entailed extensive international travel and customer relations. Produced sales of $17M in first year (8 x goal).

Managed capital equipment expenditure projects for all Maxim wafer fabs. Designed and implemented programs for the ion implant and RTP areas in Beaverton, OR. Assisted in the acquisition of Phillips Semiconductor facility in San Antonio, TX. Managed asset integration, tracking and tool transfers. Assisted in facility shutdown and disposition of excess equipment and with the ensuing facility startup, with core equipment engineering team. Assisted in hiring and indoctrination of personnel. As an Equipment Engineer I helped increase equipment uptime from 78% to over 88% while increasing production by over 55%. Reduced cost per move by evaluating high failure trends, implementing board level repairs and second sourcing of parts. Performed automation integration of ion implanters including writing code for integration of implanter DataTrak systems. Wrote and reviewed PM programs for new and existing equipment. Planned and managed 4” to 6” wafer line conversion for Beaverton, Or Implant and RTP areas. Evaluated RTP systems for process transfer of silicide production from furnace to RTP, and high energy ion implanter solutions for R&D of new processes. Installed and brought into production the resultant systems. ( 4 AST2800 RTP tools, the first “ship from cell” Axcelis GSD-HE ion implanter, 4 AMAT 9500xR/xR200 and 1 Varian 350D ion implanters ). Directed onsite OEM engineers and a staff of 12 technicians, set quarterly goals and wrote performance reviews. Project Manager / Capital Equipment Projects responsibilities included equipment capability and compatibility evaluation, location of used equipment, installation planning / tracking, budgeting, purchasing negotiation, shipping and crating logistics for tools at all Maxim facilities, as well as installation project management of implanters and RTP tools at the Maxim, OR and CA facilities. Performed major upgrades, installation and startup of old style GSD/HE and Varian E500.

Responsible for tracking, analyzing, and improving uptime for Applied Materials 9000, 9200,and 9500 implanters, Varian 350D, and Eaton 8200P implanters and Varian 3200 and MRC Eclipse systems. Directed a staff of 10 maintenance technicians and various on site Field Service Representatives. Worked closely with Production and Process Engineering to maximize equipment availability and utilization. Wrote specifications for preventive maintenance, and maintenance procedures.

Responsible for maintenance, troubleshooting and assisting with equipment engineering projects on Varian 120XPs, E1000, 300XPs, 3290s, MRC Eclipse, CD SEM, 4 point probes and other measurement equipment. Directed technicians on shift, tracked uptime and provided training on equipment.

Consultant in the Semiconductor, Nuclear Magnetic Resonance, Diagnostic Imaging and Communications industries. Provided Technical Sales Services to Siemens Med-Lab in MRI and CT scan Equipment lines. Involved planning site visits, as well as writing and presenting product comparisons for customers. Also provided product and technical support to Varian Associates engineers and various semiconductor manufacturers on an “on contract” basis.

Worked in both Semiconductor Equipment and Instrument Divisions, national and international experience. Positions involved coordinating, planning, and performing installations and service for high and medium current Ion Implanters (E220/500, 80-160XP) and C.W. and pulse sequenced Super-Conducting Nuclear Magnetic Resonance equipment(all models). This entailed extensive customer relations and a knowledge in all phases of site development, Physics, superconducting magnets, RF electronics, computers, digital electronics and complex systems troubleshooting. Assisted in developing new techniques in broadband NMR, developed preventive maintenance scheduling at new sites and trained engineers and maintenance staff.

Attended schools and maintained the following systems: Satellite Communications, H.F. and U.H.F. Communications, Data Link Technician, and Precision Ground Approach Radar Systems. Performed duties as communications and ground control approach supervisor. Interfaced directly with the F.A.A. and directed a staff of 12 technicians. Served in the Middle East onboard USS Peterson DD969 during Iranian hostage crisis (1979-81) Received Navy Expeditionary Medal. Designed technical training programs.
