About David Weingarten

Am an architect and, for the past nearly 40 years, a partner at Ace Architects. Our work is out-of-the-ordinary and very wide-ranging, characterized by spaces and places others have thought alarming and joyful. Our best known work my be Fairyland, in Oakland, a park for young children themed to fairy tales, on which we've worked (with great pleasure) for a decade-and-a-half.I also write about architecture and design. Among a half dozen books are three published by Rizzoli - Bay Area Style, Ranch Houses, and Shingle Style.As long as I've been an architect, I've collected souvenir replicas of buildings and monuments from around the world. This collection has been the subject of two books I've authored, and ten exhibitions across the U.S. All Roads Lead to Rome - 17th - 19th Century Architectural Souvenirs from the Collection of Piraneseum opens in the International Terminal at SFO in mid-January, 2017, and runs through August.Five years ago, Lucia Howard and I began Piraneseum, a new business trading in antique architectural ruins paintings, drawings, and etchings; models; and decorative arts, many characteristic souvenirs of the European Grand Tour. As part of this, we've undertaken considerable, ongoing research into the interesting histories of these artifacts. Much of this is featured at our site - piranseum.com
