ADVANCED MATERIALS AND STRUCTURAL SAFETY RESEARCH GROUPIn this group we provide research which aids in the design and certification of composite structures used in aerospace applications. Currently, I am technical monitor of eight research projects in the areas of adhesive bonding, repair, environmental factors, fluid ingression damage, advanced processes, and structure health monitoring. Additionally, I assist researchers in preparation of FAA reports which are subsequent to the research. As a result of the breadth of the subject matter I am exposed to, I am becoming increasingly familiar with the suite of state-of-the-art analytical tools used in the aerospace community as well as exploring novel applications for new techniques. At the same time I am becoming familiar with the FAA internal functionality in regards to aircraft structural substantiation and certification as well as the challenges faced with the implementation of composite structures into the existing fleet of aircraft. Additionally, I am responsible for keeping track of all project financial information.STRUCTURAL INTEGRITY OF METALLIC STRUCTURES RESEARCH GROUP In this group we do research in house. In addition to the standard suites of mechanical testing equipment, we have the one-of-a-kind Full Scale Aircraft Structural Testing and Research (FASTER) facility. We use ARAMIS for full field strain measurements. We use PATRAN and ABAQUS for analysis in support of experimental work.
