In May 2020 I became a team lead across multiple products as well overseeing major architectural changes on the SeeTickets self-service platform. I started a shift in design paradigm to modularise the existing code-base with Web API’s being a key tenant of the approach. This was achieved using .NET 6 – focussing on moving the business logic and website infrastructure over to .NET Core. On a more granular level I worked with the teams to ensure our approach was more test driven. This involved cultural changes as well as development approach for both the team and myself.I built and led a team of developers; including some fully remote members, to build new mobile applications. The first was a box office app using Xamarin Forms. This required building a basket for tickets and taking payments using Stripe Terminal, as well as customer service functionality. The second was built in .NET MAUI and I was heavily involved from requirements, to design, to implementation, and it gave me the opportunity to contribute to and influence the architecture of a new project from the ground up.In addition to management responsibilities from my previous role, working across multiple teams meant I had to adapt by delegating responsibility to the team leads of each product. It also involved learning how to efficiently manage workload and collaborate with the team to drive our goals and meet our deadlines.

Upon attaining the role of team lead for the SeeTickets self-service platform, my daily activities evolved to include management of the team, whilst still spending a large proportion of my time developing. This involved the assigning and planning of work, performing code reviews and helping team members with development wherever necessary.I led major front-end changes moving old Angular JS and jQuery code into an MVVM approach with Knockout JS. The old implementation was unwieldy and disliked within the team. Increasing UI complexity from product requirements, as well as other challenges involving use of Razor and distinct sections within the website, led us to use Knockout as our chosen framework.I started handling deployments via Azure Dev Ops - previously Team Foundation Server - introducing CI builds to the various environments and improving and optimising our processes for steering features from concept to production. This involved automated builds, some of which were timed, some based on commits to branches, as well as adding required test passes to check ins/builds.

Primarily I worked on a web-based product separate to the main ticketing web-site. This product referred to as the self-service platform, allowed promoters of all levels to create and manage their events. Clients including bigger promoters such as Glastonbury or V-Festival to smaller promoters organising local events, could then report on ticket sales for their events as well as produce and track use of tickets via an in-house ticket scanning app.This role introduced me to AGILE development, use of TFS, unit testing and Angular JS. There were many styles, structures and approaches housed within the product due to multiple developers and teams working on the product in the past. This posed challenges to meet deadlines when developing the product whilst slowly improving and re-factoring the code-base to be consistent and in-line with the company development guidelines. Separate to the Microsoft stack for the primary product I worked in, I also worked on an existing iOS app for scanning tickets adding functionality and performing bug fixes. The challenges here were both the legacy code-base as well as the performance critical scanning functionality. This was complex due to thousands of scans needing to be recorded in a small space of time, imposed load to both the device as well as server infrastructure for the online/offline syncing.

I worked with Shopper Retail Insight as the lead developer charged with supporting and improving the software-side of this new business. Part of this process involved me learning MVC as well as MDX for communicating with an OLAP Cube of which I was involved in designing and building. As well as software development, this role involved business analysis and product development, modelling the business domain and having input into key decisions to improve software products.

I worked on a longer-term engagement with a client who had a web-based Athlete Management product. Their clients included Manchester United and the Seattle Seahawks. Initially I worked on the product as a developer providing support and developing new parts, but I later became the team lead of a small team assigned to the project.This additional responsibility involved managing the team, organising the workload, and garnering a relationship with their clients regarding product development. I met with clients regularly to observe the system in action at training complexes, as well as having significant input into the direction of the product. Other regular tasks involved server management, deployment and producing documentation for major enhancements.

Maintained and improved existing products both internal and client-based and worked with the development team to efficiently complete project goals.As a junior developer I worked on many products and within multiple teams. This included localising some existing products developed with Flex in Flash Builder 4, building an image recognition program to automatically retrieve fixture details from store layout diagrams, and developing a heatmap generation tool to work in conjunction with the company’s analysis products.
