I have nearly 30 years experience of civil dispute resolution. This came after 10 years working in crime and international fraud. I gained invaluable experience working for the Office in trials all over the UK and NI. I worked with fraud squads through out the country as well as HM Customs and HM Inland Revenue before they joined. Colleagues from my time in the office are now spread out through the legal, investigatory and regulatory world but we still share that sense of family when we meet.

After passing the Civil Service entrance I thought I was going to work at the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions. In fact, I had arrived on the day the CPS went live. I had seen articles on the news but did not associate the impending revolution in criminal prosecution to my new appointment. There had been a pilot working with Bow Street Magistrates but the experience was new to virtually all of the now called CPS, the Police , the Courts and the Defence. We had to learn new cultures, new informational languages, forge relationships and hammer out an efficient method of working while dealing with live cases. The challenges were enormous and rewarding. Lasting friendships were made and the whole experience prompted me to study a law degree and ultimately qualify. The pressure of the first year was sometimes close to dangerously high but, having been through that, I feel tempered and able to cope with just about anything.
