After leaving school I started at Bare Motor Company Limited Vauxhall in the Parts Department, becoming Parts & Service Manager two years later. Relocated to purpose built premises on White Lund Industrial Estate in 1988 and renamed the company to Hargreaves Garages, becoming After-sales Director in 1992. Built and opened Hargreaves Toyota on a green field site in the same year and in 1995 acquired Atkinson Garages Vauxhall in Kendal. Became General Manager at the Morecambe Vauxhall branch in 1996 with an interest in the Toyota site until we released the franchise in 1999. With a strong leadership style and natural flare to get the best out of people, coupled with a strong growing brand in the early 2000’s, the company went from strength to strength, improving both turnover and profit.
