Regarding my abilities to connect with community, I strive to leverage two features of my being that are often perceived as paradoxical. I am Black in America. I understand the impacts of inequity and what it means to be underrepresented where representation is most needed and overrepresented where no individual or group should suffer to be. I am empathetic. I connect with people at the core of humanity; believing that all creatures are deserving of opportunities to choose pathways for themselves toward desired outcomes. I am genuinely curious about the lives of others. I am patient, even when I disagree, choosing to be responsive versus reactive.
