Specialties: Conductor, Bands, Tuba, Music EducationDavid Winer directs the Wind Ensemble, coaches Chamber Music, and teaches low brass at The Loomis Chaffee School, a 9-12 prep school in Windsor, CT. David recently served for several years as Chair of the Student Affairs Commission and Northern Region Director for the CT Music Educators Association. David retired in 2014 after 37 years as a public school music educator, capping his career as the Supervisor of Music for the Westport, CT Public Schools for the last seven. He began in Portland, Maine as tubist for the Portland Symphony Orchestra, Instructor of Tuba and Euphonium at the University of Southern Maine, Band Director at Portland High School, and Founder and Director of the Portland Youth Wind Ensemble. His 30-year career as a Band Director continued in CT at The Gilbert School (Winsted) and at Avon High School. In service to Music Education, David has conducted and chaired more than 70 festivals, and mentored more than 30 student and new teachers. In CT, he has conducted bands at the CMEA Northern, Eastern, and Western Regions, and at Festivals such as the Berkshire League, Shoreline, Quinnebaug Valley, ASBDA, and others, and has conducted festivals in New York, Maine, and Massachusetts, as well. David has degrees from The New England Conservatory of Music, University of Connecticut, and the Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study from the University of Hartford and The Hartt School. His private students have attended such schools as Yale, Eastman, Peabody, North Texas State, The Hartt School, Cleveland Institute, Ithaca College, Boston University and other fine schools.
