I am Head of Economics in Ashurst's Competition and EU law department. I have significant expertise in leading teams and advising clients (including third party complainants) on all aspects of UK and EU competition law. This includes:• advising on the economic analysis of mergers and acquisitions (including two recent Phase 2 investigations in the UK - Cardtronics/DC Payments, and UHS/Cambian Adult Services); • advising in relation to market studies and investigations by both the UK and EU competition authorities (including the retail banking, private healthcare, audit and local bus services market investigations, the FCA's market studies into retirement income and investment banking, and the PSR's market review of card acquiring services);• advising dominant undertakings on the regulatory risk of engaging in certain types of conduct (i.e. abuse of dominance cases);• advising on anti-competitive practices and agreements (i.e. cartels); • calculating damages in competition litigation cases; and• providing competition law compliance training.I have acted for clients across a diverse range of industries including banking, public transport, newspapers, betting, media, health, supermarkets, software and producer and consumer goods. I have also published numerous professional articles on topical issues in competition law, and run training courses for clients and competition lawyers.I have strong analytical abilities and clear and accurate drafting skills, and am able to convert complex economic concepts into simple and coherent arguments. Having worked alongside competition lawyers for a number of years, I also have significant experience of being part of and managing multi-disciplinary teams, and have strong interpersonal and presentation skills. I have also produced macro-economic briefing notes and provided strategic input at the board level.
