The most rewarding job I have had yet. I oversee tutoring children from grades K-12 on a rotating basis in math. I delight in the opportunity to help kids think independently and concisely, and I enjoy each day that I have worked here. I help develop the kids’ curriculum to accentuate their math skills and abilities through Socratic questioning and confidence building. Mathnasium techniques are easy to implement and fun to use. I enjoy watching the spectrum of young kids to graduating seniors turn on the proverbial light bulb whenever the methodologies begin to click. There are instances of unruly behavior (they are kids after all), but I have had no great difficulty in restoring order through kind, but firm direction and class management skills. I am also responsible to establishing communication with the kids’ work and their parents by care calls and progress reports.

There was not an area of the store I was unable to work in: My duties included: I would locate textbooks/general merchandise for customers, as well as offer suggestions for supplementary course material. Extra sales meant I would work longer hours. I would go out of my way to explain up to date knowledge of company sales/marketing procedures. I knew, since I was also simultaneously a cashier, that this explication was difficult to convey during busy hours, and a well-educated customer could make a speedy and pleasant checkout experience. I’m a writer (as mentioned in my hobbies) and I take interest in people’s diversity of behavior, whether concerned, rude, joyful, or fatigued, and I do my best to orient my approach in order to make all customers feel welcome .Fun story: For my first official day of work, I was given half an hour training on a register then worked for 13 hours during the Fall Rush (Follett’s equivalent to Black Friday). Needless to say, I learned quite quickly in order to adapt. I have extensive Register knowledge.Yes, I maintain a clean/presentable work environment.I worked in Online Orders for over a year, seven months of which I was in charge. I was just learning online orders when my superior unfortunately suffered a stroke. Thus it was up to me to take charge of the situation, and, like the register, I learned fast. I picked orders, charged orders, packaged orders, and shipped them. Then I trained and oversaw others to do the same. If customers had concerns or issues, the buck stopped with me. I made mistakes and stumbled along the way, but I persevered and helped the company to have a smoother online order rush than before I was there.In addition to online orders, I also did extensive Shipping and Receiving through FedEx Manager and Follett programs Win/DSS and MMS.I have taken responsibility in the hiring process, including selecting applicable candidates, interviewing, and especially training.

My first job! I basically worked to pay for my college textbooks for the spring semester. Sad, but true. I worked during the retail establishment’s “’rush” period and actively accomplished satisfying people (both customers and associates) with a motivated, yet slightly unskilled work ethic. I took the opportunity to build my skills through time management and proactive engagement.
