I got my start in Merrill Lynch working in their Risk Data Quality department (RDQ). Essentially this group supported specific product line risk managers - in my particular case, I supported the equity risk managers. After approximately 1.5 years, I was fortunately recognized by very senior management and transferred into Valuation Risk Management. This is where I got my real start learning risk management practices as well as option theory. I started off doing primarily independent price verification for equity single stocks, profit and loss explain attribution, and providing summaries to the respective single stock traders. After Valuation Risk merged with Market Risk Management, I became the risk manager in charge of US single stock equity derivatives. Here I further enhanced and broadened my knowledge of risk management practices, theories etc. I was able to forge a very good relationship with the desk I covered which further helped me along with my job.

Dec 2000 - Mar 2004

Analyst

New York, Ny, Us

I had gotten the role of risk analyst in the Commodities Middle Office. Previously this role did not exist, but fortunately, I came to the right place at the right time. My knowledge of the financial markets was extremely limited at this time, however, I was able through my experience in this role, to enhance not only my knowledge of the financial industry, but also some very basic risk knowledge. Fortunately, I encountered one of my first real mentors in this industry, who helped shape me into who I am today.
