I have been Principal or Co-investigator on one institutional, seven federal, nine industry and three foundation grants ranging from $20,000 to over $300,000. In industry, I was a senior member of a project team that brought three novel anticancer agents from the lab to the clinic. I recently completed a Small Business Innovation Research grant to develop a new drug for pancreatic cancer. My goals are:* To discover and develop new therapies for cancer, especially forms where there is great unmet clinical need.* To identify synergistic drug combinations for cancer, particularly with activity against cancer stem cells, and to create novel platforms to deliver such drug combinations in precise concentrations and ratios.* To bring advances in translational research to clinical development, particularly clinical trials guided by real-time drug pharmacokinetics and pharmacodyanmics.* To apply my experience in academic and industrial drug discovery and development and regulatory affairs to related areas of science and technology policy (I was a national semifinalist for the 2010 AAAS Science & Technology Policy Fellowship).Strong interpersonal and communication skills have enabled me to build research collaborations, mentor students, and direct laboratory teams. Rather than micromanage, my philosophy is to clearly define expectations and empower staff members to develop their own abilities to solve problems and achieve success for themselves and for the team. I have had the privilege of working with many notable scientists, including Drs. Mansukh Wani and Monroe Wall, winners of the 2002 General Motors Cancer Research Foundation Kettering Prize.Specialties: Anticancer drug discovery, development and PK/PD, biomarkers in circulating tumor cells, design of combination chemotherapy regimens, medical regulatory affairs (IRB member and PI for clinical studies), scientific journal editorial boards.
