City of Toronto The Cabbagetown Business Improvement Area (BIA) is a not-for-profit community agency, formed and funded by local commercial property owners and tenants. As one of Toronto’s oldest BIAs, we work in partnership with residents, community groups and organizations, other BIA’s, and all three levels of the government to create a vibrant and thriving business community that attracts shoppers, diners, tourists, and new business.We act as a unified voice for Cabbagetown businesses and assist business owners with marketing, applying for City grants and permits, and with accessing supports and resources. We also plan events and initiatives with the goal of engaging our community and attracting visitors and locals to shop, eat, and explore Cabbagetown. We’re always looking for new and better ways to serve our businesses and build a sense of community. We are run by an elected Board of Management and serve businesses along Carlton St and Gerrard St, from Sherbourne to Parliament, along Parliament from Wellesley to Gerrard, and a small enclave of businesses in St. James Town.

• Worked closely with University’s Registrar, Programming Assistant, Department Heads, Directors and other senior leadership to improve student life and experience on campus • In collaboration with the SAC, successfully challenged and amended the University Mandated Leave of Absence Policy (UMLAP) which targeted students and staff with mental health disorders after receiving expressed concern from the Chief Commissioner of the Ontario Human Rights Commission • Drafted and edited written materials including agendas committee meetings and (budget) proposals• Working closely with Enrollment Services Department to improve outreach by expanding services like extra-curricular activities, academic advising and support• Conducted surveys and reviews to senior leadership on how we can scale KPI’s and outreach within the university. • Worked closely with the Transitional Year Programme (TYP) Department to assist students entering their first year of studies; an access program for student who do not meet the formal qualifications to enter university on their own academic merit due to outside mitigating factors beyond their control. • Co-Chaired several Annual General Meetings with first and second-year students and representatives from all seven colleges at the University of Toronto to support governance and monitor operational polices and procedure.
