David is a qualified European Trade Mark Attorney and an experienced IP practitioner. Many of David’s clients are market leaders and require legal advice which is both clear and commercially practical. His pragmatic approach helps his clients to meet their commercial needs and objectives in the marketplace. David advises clients on all aspects of trade mark and brand protection; this includes the adoption of new trade marks, clearing marks for use in the marketplace and selecting the most suitable trade mark registration systems. His wealth of experience in devising global trade mark strategies ensures that trade mark registration in key markets is prioritised and achieved as efficiently as possible for his clients. His attention to detail ensures constructive and effective trade mark portfolio management, comprehensive IP audits and thorough due diligence work.David has a particular interest in trade mark infringement, passing off and opposition matters. The global trade mark watches he puts in place ensure that conflicting trade marks are flagged and brought to his clients’ attention. He works to ensure that trade mark infringers are identified and tackled immediately, so as to prevent customer confusion, loss of sales or damage to his clients’ brands.David represents his clients in trade mark examination, opposition and cancellation matters before the Irish Patents Office, the United Kingdom Intellectual Property Office and the European Union Intellectual Property Office. He also lectures on intellectual property law at the Law Society of Ireland. He is Chairman of the Trade Mark Law and Practice Committee of the Association of Patent and Trade Mark Attorneys.
