About David Alvarez Melis

I work in the fields of Machine Learning and Natural Language Processing, focusing on:- Machine learning with structured objects (trees, sequences, graphs)- Designing interpretability frameworks for transparent machine learning- Optimal transport distance as a tool to enhance current approachesAlthough I am fond of any practical applications that touch upon these three main themes, I'm most passionate about problems involving natural language processing, speech recognition and image processing. I recently completed a PhD in Computer Science (MIT), where I conducted my research at CSAIL. Prior to that, I worked for a year at IBM's TJ Watson Research Center, in the Speech Recognition group. Even before that, I completed a M.S. in Math at Courant Institute, NYU and a B.Sc. in Applied Mathematics at Instituto Tecnologico Autonomo de Mexico (ITAM) in Mexico City.
