Originally from Canada, I'm a second-year student in the Bachelor of Dental Health Science program. I have begun the journey toward completing the required five years of dental training, including the Master of Dentistry program, to become a licenced dentist. Previously, I completed my OSSD Diploma at St. Andrews College in Aurora, Ontario, Canada and received the Andrean Diploma with Honours and the Ontario Scholar Certificate. My leadership skills were evident when I was promoted to Lieutenant in St. Andrews College Cadet Corps and won the Gordon Marshal Leadership award for the best overall graduating cadet. Further, in my role as the leader of the Environmental Council, I coordinated many campaigns at St. Andrew's College to increase recycling, decrease energy usage and decrease overall waste. Working together as a cohesive group furthered our success. My efforts working with others as a team continued in sports as an ice hockey player for the Aurora Tigers and on the beach volleyball courts. I have always been diligent in my studies to learn as much as possible in science subjects that pertain to my goal of being a healthcare provider. As those studies evolved, it became clear that my interest in Health Science and my extensive experience in the dental office aligned to give me the confidence to pursue a career in dentistry that is enjoyable and creative and serves the local community of diverse people. I have witnessed dentistry's impact on people's lives and how it can improve their quality of life. That impact is what I am driven to be part of. As a dental student, I look forward to graduating into a noble profession where I can significantly contribute to the community where I grew up.Living most of my life in rural Ontario, Canada, allowed me to focus on nature and peacefulness and get a solid foundation for the concept of community. This area is diverse in culture, including First Nations communities. They believe community is a pillar of identity, and that is something that I admire and believe to be true. Through many interactions with members of their community, I developed a sense of cultural competence. The skill was very helpful when I volunteered at my father's dental office in the heart of our region.
