The Foundation Engineering team is dedicated to ensuring UnitedHealth Group can attain their industry goals. This is accomplished through a systems level thinking, integrated solutions (Network/Compute/Storage), public and private cloud, developer enablement, lean methodologies, improvement Kata, and DevOps practices.

The Foundation Engineering team is dedicated to ensuring UnitedHealth Group can attain their industry goals. This is accomplished through a systems level thinking, integrated solutions (Network/Compute/Storage), public and private cloud, developer enablement, lean methodologies, improvement Kata, and DevOps practices.

The Distributed Platform Engineering and Implementation team ensures that new technology and solutions are introduced to the UHG IT environment in a controlled, reliable, and supportable manner. This approach is accomplished through the successful execution of project management, technological engineering, budgeting, and the automation and customization of critical tools. My department consists of four separate teams, each focused on one of those aspects.My Project Management team applies project management methodologies to all implementations of new technology and solutions.The Integration Services team maintains and enhances tools critical to the success of UHG IT. They maintain and support a custom application (Server tracking and workflow management). The Engineering team discovers and delivers technical solutions for inclusion in our standard offering, setting the course for UHG IT. They ensure that UHG IT as a whole is capable of supporting the technology before it is implemented.The Business Operations team ensures we have sufficient capacity to meet demand, as well as monitors, tracks, and balances the budget for the Distributed Platform Services department.

They ensure that Optum as a whole is capable of supporting the technology before it is implemented.

My responsibilities for the Ingenix datacenters (Tier 1) in Salt Lake City and Basking Ridge included all aspects of system support for the computing devices (Windows, Linux, and Unix) located on the raised floor. I was also responsible for a small amount of rack space at a third party datacenter that hosted an Ingenix built custom application. Activities that the line staff participated ran the gambit from plan, to build, to run, and retire. Towards the end of my role I managed the datacenter consolidation and migration effort from Salt Lake City and Basking Ridge to Plymouth, Minnesota. Other responsibilities included participating in regular audits (SOX, SAS70, HIPAA) and remediation of any findings and acting as the liaison and vendor manager for Veritas.

The DBA and Technical Support team was responsible for the support three Ingenix built software products that increased Hospital and Healthcare Insurance company revenue streams. My team provided 24x7 support of these Oracle based products. I was personally responsible for on site pre-sales technical representation as well as on site implementation evaluation and performance tuning. During my tenure in this role, I established a recurring customer service survey, introduced our on-site evaluation service, and developed hands on custom report training that is to this day presented each year at the annual Ingenix user conference.

The Benchmark and Performance Lab was created to run performance and stress tests on custom software applications. The results of these tests were used to create custom hardware sizing matrices as well as provide the development community with suggestions for application optimization. My role as the senior systems administrator in this group was to perform stress tests and analyze the results. I also acted as a junior project manager, scheduling all aspects of the benchmark lab project portfolio. I regularly met with external customers to present our test findings and offer tuning suggestions for their environments.
