Having spent most of my working life in the pharmaceutical industry I now have the opportunity to take that experience into an area about which I am really passionate – the use of cannabis as a medicine. In my early days I was privileged to be the Marketing Manager at Eli Lilly for the launch of the first synthetic cannabinoid to be approved in the UK. Nabilone, under the brand name Cesamet, was first made available in 1983 for the treatment of chemotherapy induced nausea and vomiting. Since then, I have been involved at the Executive and Board level for a number of internationally renowned pharmaceutical companies as well as start-up organisations. My areas of expertise include strategic and financial planning, product development, sales and marketing, medical research as well as leadership and management. I have headed up operations based in UK, EU, Eastern Europe, Israel, India and Southeast Asia.My interest in cannabis-based medicines has continued to flourish as more and more evidence becomes published about its effectiveness in treating a number of medical conditions, ranging from chronic pain to anxiety, depression and epilepsy. It’s clear that cannabis is going to play an important role in the healthcare of the future. However, in many countries, UK included, the use of medical cannabis is restricted, and many patients have no option but to purchase their supplies from illicit sources with no idea of the quality or strength. My mission is to help people who don’t have access to medical cannabis, for financial or other reasons, to grow their own at home using a natural, organic and sustainable method that is cost-effective. This means that the product will be of guaranteed quality, without additives and of known composition for optimum treatment of their particular medical condition.
