Directed enterprise risk management (ERM), a team charged with overseeing the Risk Management Framework for a Fortune 250 multi-line insurance company's U.S. operations. ● Provided executive-level risk oversight for the company's COVID-19 response, tracking and aligning 800+ initiatives.● Partnered with Corporate Strategy to establish long-range scenario planning capabilities to test the resilience of the business model to large scale disruption. Led to changes in foundational components of companies’ long-term strategy.● Re-envisioned ERM’s approach to supporting second-line bodies, moving from a passive meeting-facilitation approach to one in which ERM staff was deeply embedded with first-line partners. Delivered oversight of Unum’s capital management initiatives and planning, both corporate and statutory. Co-led the company's corporate development and strategy functions, ensuring that a common capital management approach was utilized across the enterprise.● Directed a year-long effort to modernize and streamline the company's product capital and net investment income (NII) allocation methodology. This effort required partnering with business and finance leads to communicate the theoretical basis for the change, achieve alignment, and execute the technical updates.● Re-envisioned the role of Financial Planning & Analysis and worked with FP&A to roll out a cloud-based platform allowing strategic planners and financial modelers to collaborate directly linking financial forecasts to strategic plans and initiatives. Oversaw international corporate tax planning, compliance, audit management and GAAP reporting for US domestic parent with 10+ foreign insurance subsidiaries. ● Developed and executed a strategy for efficient repatriation of foreign earnings creating over $100M in immediate GAAP and cash tax savings. The year-long international initiative included restructuring international holding company structure, establishing new entities, and “exotic” debt issuance and involved numerous internal and external contributors. I was the winner of the 2006 CFO award for greatest individual contribution to the company.● Drove process improvements yielding 80% efficiency improvements in investment tax calculations, on a $50+ billion portfolio.● Identified and implemented method changes to international tax calculations releasing over $15M in tax and improving tax efficiency for all future years.
