Editor In ChiefBlockchain Journal May 2022 - May 2024Boston, Ma, UsHaving served enterprise audiences as a technology journalist for more than 30 years, I am now focused on helping those same business and IT executives sort through the noise in the blockchain industry. All of the articles we publish on BlockchainJournal.com as well as our blockchain glossary are designed to help enterprises and other businesses to better understand the unique value proposition of distributed ledger technology as an application platform and how DLT can help them to achieve their objectives when it comes to digital transformation, customer engagement, business innovation, and industry disruption. If you're doing something related to blockchain and DLT for businesses (that's NOT about buying and selling cryptocurrency), please reach out. We may want to cover you. We're interested the stories of solution providers as well as practitioners. We're always looking for writers and non-advertorial content that our audience will appreciate. -
Editor-In-ChiefProgrammableweb Jul 2013 - May 2022I was the editor-in-chief of ProgrammableWeb.com (the Web's Journal for the API Economy) and the executive producer of ProgramamableWeb's APIcon (the API Conference) and have full P&L responsibility for the entire brand. Since joining ProgrammableWeb in July 2013, I've completely replatformed and redesigned the site while also founding and building the San Francisco and London editions of APIcon; the API conference (SF-May 2014; 18 sponsors, 40+ speakers, 600+ registrants). ProgrammableWeb's new platform enables all sorts of editorial, directory, community, and revenue opportunities that didn't exist before. Now that the first iteration is done, I continue to lead the site's evolution on those and other fronts. If you can write authoritatively about Web or mobile development and want to contribute to ProgrammableWeb, let me know. ProgrammableWeb's parent company, MuleSoft, is growing fast and looking for amazing people who know how to challenge themselves and the companies they work for to take it to the next level. If you think you've got what it takes to join one of the greatest cultures in tech, hit me up!

Advisory Board MemberEuropean Commission Jun 2018 - Dec 2021Brussels, BeIn an effort to better understand how APIs can better serve the European Commission's Digital Single Market initiative, the EC's Joint Research Centre (JRC) and the Directorate‑General for Communications Networks, Content and Technology of the European Commission are running a multi-year research project that explores the history, efficacy, and future of APIs. As a member of the board of advisors to this project, I am helping the project to understand the many technical nuances of APIs while also providing the EC with direct query-level access to ProgrammableWeb's API Directory. -
Chief Content OfficerUnited Business Media Jul 2009 - Apr 2013London, England, GbHere, my primary focus has been setting and aligning our editorial/content, technology, and business strategies. In answering the question of where we want to be editorially (voice, mediums, brand positioning, etc), I also have to look at whether our digital infrastructure is up to the task of supporting and scaling that editorial/content strategy and then beyond that, whether there's an appetite for such a scaled offering on the business side. Additionally, given UBM Tech's significant portfolio in big-tent events like Interop, Black Hat, Enterprise Connect, E2, and Cloud Connect (the latter of which I'm the founder), I'm also responsible for using our media platforms as a means to drive interest in those events (this goes well beyond simple devices such as house ads). To keep all of these interests in alignment:1) I have oversight over editorial, custom content, Web operations, Search/Social/Google-News optimization, design, and our software development pipeline and 2) I work closely with other key stakeholders including the CMO, the CIO, the chief sales officer and the presidents and executives of our various sister organizations (media, events, etc.). -
Gm, Exec Director Interop And Editor-At-Large (Informationweek.Com)Ubm Tech Media (Prior Monikers: Cmp And Techweb) Jan 2008 - Jul 2009I wear a few different hats at CMP. On the event side, I am General Manager for Alternative Events and Executive Conference Director for Interop. "Alternative Events" are primarily unconferences like Mashup Camp, Startup Camp and other intimate events. On the editorial side, I continue to write about technology and my musings, podcasts, and videos can be found on InformationWeek.com.

Co-FounderMass Events Labs (Acquired By Ubm) 2006 - 2008As a side project/passion (while I had my day job at CNET), started a small company to produce boutique events. These events were primarily "unconferences" like Mashup Camp and Startup Camp. The company quickly surpassed over $1MM in revenue after which point it was acquired by UBM. Although I was moonlighting on Mass Events Labs, the acquisition forced me to resign from my post at CNET because UBM wanted me to contribute (editorially) to InformationWeek (in addition to producing the events).

General Manager & Executive Editor, ZdnetZdnet 1998 - 2000Was in charge of ZDNet's B2B division, otherwise known as ZDNet BizTech at the time. Here, I oversaw the online operations for Ziff-Davis' various B2B publications at the time as well as the build-out of several categorical B2B channels (Windows, Linux, Mobile, Security, Networking, etc.) that were based on one part content from the B2B pubs, and one part original content. Additionally, I worked closely with ZDNet's M&A/Business Development Team to identify, do due-diligence, and finally close acquisition and bizdev targets. Once deals closed, I led the systems, content, and staff integration phase.

EditorZiff Davis Media 1991 - 2000New York, New York, UsThis is sort of a strange catch-all bucket. But I'll leave it in since my years as an editorial leader at Ziff-Davis are very relevant to my marketability. Here's the short version: I started at Ziff-Davis as an analyst in PC Week's Labs and went on from there to run those Labs. That was a bi-coastal operation. For two years, I spent half my week in San Mateo at ZD Labs and the other half at PC Week's headquarters in Medford, MA. From there, I was promoted to be the Editor-in-Chief of Windows Sources Magazine and from there, Editorial Director of Computer Shopper. In 1998, I joined up with ZDNet (ZD's online division) and ran all of the B2B offerings. In July 2000, ZDNet was acquired by CNET where I went on to continue to run ZDNet's B2B properties and launch ZDNet's very popular network of blogs (Dan Farber and I were the founding editors of the Between the Lines blog). -
