With over 35 years of experience as a marine photographer journalist, I lead Press Photographers Ireland CLG, the organisation that represents Ireland's finest editorial photographers and runs the prestigious AIB Press Photographer of the Year Award. My mission is to promote excellence, ethics, and innovation in photography and to support the professional development of our members.As the director and founder of Oceansport Limited, I offer a range of services, including editorial and PR photography, video and audio production, editorial and copy-writing, drone operation, photo syndication, stock picture library, private commissions, display print sales and related consultancy services. I have covered major sailing events such as the Olympic Games and Volvo Ocean Race, as well as many commercial and PR projects, for national and international publications and clients. I have also written hundreds of weekly logs and columns, co-authored a professionally published autobiography, and produced a limited edition of fine-art images. I am passionate about storytelling through various media and formats, and I thrive in situations where diverse views and fresh-thinking are encouraged.Since 1985, I have been a volunteer with the RNLI, the charity that saves lives at sea. My roles have included ILB crew-member and helm, 17 years as station press officer, ALB navigator leading a Commercial 200t Yachtmaster qualification that has allowed me to serve currently as an RNLI lifeboat coxswain since 2009.In all my interests and roles, I believe that the key to any successful project is ensuring all team-member feel included and able to work to their strengths. The joy of photography is being able to watch it all unfold - with or without a camera.
