I am currently a Senior at the University of Rhode Island majoring in Journalism. I have been a Staff Reporter for the Good Five Cent Cigar for almost a year now. I enjoy writing Entertainment based articles mostly. I am also currently interning at WPRI-12/Channel 12 News on the Rhode Show where I work behind the scenes with cameras, crew, directors and producers and see first-hand how an entertainment based news show is run and put together. I have been writing on my own for years. I fell in love with the field of Journalism when I was just a sophomore in high school where I had to create a magazine for a class filled with different types of articles. I especially love the field of Entertainment news and how much fun it can be. I watch a lot of entertainment news interviews and shows to which I imagine myself being the interviewer one day.I began my College career at the Community College of Rhode Island for my first two years being apart of the free two-year program there. During my time at CCRI, I took many Communication courses pertaining to Journalism because CCRI does not have a journalism major/department. I took basic courses at CCRI such as Foundations of American Journalism which taught me the background of journalism in the U.S., Media Writing which gave me the opportunity to write articles professionally and interview people, Multimedia Reporting which gave me the experience of editing in Adobe Premiere Pro with both audio and video interviews. I received my Associates in Arts degree from CCRI at the end of my two years, and I then transferred to the University of Rhode Island to continue my education in the field of journalism.At URI, I immediately joined the school newspaper the Good Five Cent Cigar as a Contributing Reporter. This club/organization gives me the opportunity to work in a professional news environment, write articles and have them published weekly and work with a team of students that treat this club like a profession. When I transferred to URI, I was finally able to choose journalism as my major and take courses with a a more direct focus in the field of journalism that the courses at CCRI. At URI I have taken courses such as Public Relations Reporting which has given me the opportunity to go outside of the classroom and report on story pertaining to the public, Magazine and Feature Article Writing which gives me more insight on writing entertainment based articles and Television News which allows me to work with camera and tech equipment for stories, and also to work on news packages and edit them as well.
