Responsible for the introduction of new products into the manufacturing realm. Responsible for coordinating the efforts of Design, Test, Quality, Cad Layout, Manufacturing and Compliance through bi-weekly product review meetings. Troubleshot manufacturing and design issues. Worked with quality on vendor based quality issues and manufacturing acceptance criteria. Generated continuous improvements in quality and productivity for multiple lines of telecommunication products. Performed DOE (design of experiments) for the introduction of lead-free soldering. Conducted both destructive and non-destructive testing of products and components, performed failure analysis on components, and assisted in the development of manufacturing aids to improve quality, and throughput. I developed capital equipment justification packages for various pieces of production equipment (@ selective soldering equipment). Developed multiple engineering tools to aid the NPE group in calculating panelization drawings, solder paste volume analysis (both SMT and Through-hole), secondary component reflow capabilities, and PCB pricing estimators. Responsible for creating and monitoring all DFM (Design for Manufacturing) details of multiple lines of products. Developed a process of using Cam350 to compare multi-revision board layers to reduce inspection/review times and to increase the accuracy of PCB change verifications. Worked heavily with mechanical design group to improve the manufacturability of products, while reducing component counts, and implementing cost-savings throughout products.

Responsible for the Design, Industrial, Process & Manufacturing Engineering groups, Test Engineering and Document Control Processes. Implemented a Lean Manufacturing program within the facility site. Served as Lean Facilitator for several lean/kaizen projects: packaging, RMA, box-build, SMT modular manufacturing, and chemical/tooling reduction. Served as Sparton team member in association with MEP, we were the first company to received the National Lean Certifications in the state of New Mexico. Developed a system and procedure for developing work instructions for over 2300 active assemblies, each with it's own revision control. Implemented cost reduction programs focusing on chemicals (reduced the annual spending by $280K). Developed and initiated an on-line ECO system that reduced implementation times from 10 days to just under 4 hours. Established a very extensive labor estimation software for calculating labor times, NRE$, work flow diagrams, learning curves, takt times, and capacity models. Responsible for the selection, justification, procurement, and management of all capital equipment and tools, and asset tracking for the Albuquerque facility. Played the key role as transition facilitator to move operations into new location. Facility prep, equipment selection/justifications/installs/training and layouts were all key tasks I completed. Developed a transition plan that allowed manufacturing the opportunity to meet all customer commitments, transition production and product start/ramp ups without jeopardizing revenue.

Nortel Networks purchased the company I worked for (QTera) and then closed all facilities and moved the operation to Canada after 911. While I was there, I served as the contract manufacturing manager responsible for the review, audit, and selection of suppliers for the Nortel Network products. The suppliers were responsible for providing printed circuit boards, fiber optical and final box build enclosures. I performed technology and quality audits on various sites both domestically and internationally. Performance and quality metrics were key responsibilities to ensure suppliers were meeting our needs. Responsible for defining product requirements with each vendor. I reviewed all quotes, ECO impacts, and documentation issues and needs.

Amitek was a contract manufacturing company that was purchased by Century Electronics that later closed the facility. I facilitated the transition from one manufacturing location into a larger facility. I oversaw all aspects of facility preparation and capital equipment installations. I managed and directed the activities of all engineering based groups, machine maintenance groups and technicians.

As Director of Engineering, I was responsible for the Process, Manufacturing, and Industrial Engineers as well as Test, and Safety/Regulatory personnel. I was a key player in renovation of a large 352K sq. ft facility and expanded the SMT process capability from 5 machines to 12 full double-sided reflow SMT lines and a completed Prototype line. Served as technical contact for all Program Managers and Marketing personnel. Traveled with Marketing and Program Managers and presented company capabilities based on Engineering, Quality, Test, and Configuration Management controls to existing and new potential customers. Responsible for all labor biding of new products and cost impacts associated with proposed ECOs from customers.

Served as in-circuit and functional test engineer, production supervisor, and manufacturing engineer during my association with SCI (total of @ seven years). Responsible for process development, robotic work cells, AI and SMT equipment, wave-solder processes, and tooling requirements. Also served as supervisor over the facilities maintenance crew and the Security group. (Between 1982 - 1985, I returned to college for Engineering degree) I worked on the initial introduction of SMT into the assembly area, hybrid products and through-hole assemblies.
