As a Structural Design Intern at Quinn Dressel Associates, I designed various Steel, Reinforced Concrete, and Lumber structural components, including Beams, Columns, Trusses, and Slabs, for Residential, Commerical, and Industrial structures. Design was carried out in accordance with the Ontario Building Code Division B - Part 4, either by hand, using pertinent Design Handbooks, or using structural analysis software, including SAP2000 and SAFE. As part of this design process, I appraised multiple options to reduce costs and environmental impact. On top of this, I regularly conducted Load Assessments on existing structures, evaluating them under various loading conditions to determine their adequacy for increased loading. Other responsibilities included drafting technical construction drawings using AutoCAD and going on-site to gather measurements of existing structures. On top of my usual workload, I also created 30+ standard structural and enclosure details for reoccurring use to reduce time co-workers spend drafting technical construction drawings. Subsequently, I created a database to organize these standard details, facilitating a rapid company-wide implementation.

As a Building Science Intern at Morrison Hershfield Corporation, I frequently visited New Construction, primarily MURB's and Commercial Buildings, to document overall construction progress and assess various aspects of the enclosure for deficiencies. Subsequently, I prepared in-depth reports detailing observations and recommendations for clientele. On top of this, I oversaw the execution of QA&QC protocol throughout construction; This included reviewing various pre-construction mock-ups to identify potential constructability issues and conducting Air Leakage and Water Penetration testing in accordance with ASTM Standards E783 and E1105 at several stages of construction. Other responsibilities included reviewing Product Data and Shop Drawing submittals to ensure strict adherence to requisite codes and design intent and representing Morrison Hershfield at OAC meetings, addressing any inquiries or concerns raised by clientele. On top of my usual workload, I also organized mixed-method research on drainage of exposed steel frames; This involved developing a rigorous set of experiments, documenting and analyzing these experiments results, and expressing my findings in a 25-page paper.
