I'm a thermal spray engineer for the 76 Propulsion Maintenance Group. We perform depot maintenance on several turbine engines for the US Air Force, US Navy, and a few other countries. My shop applies thermal spray coatings (via air plasma, HVOF, wire arc, and flame) using automated robotics. My primary responsibility is to ensure process control for day-to-day production. This includes robot programming, level-loading, coating development, repair development, equipment maintenance, process improvement, training and certification of operators, oversee contracts, and "other duties as assigned".

I worked through the Science & Engineering Palace Acquire (PAQ) program as a facilities engineer for the 76 Propulsion Maintenance Group. My responsibilities included installing new equipment and utilities, removing and disposing of old equipment, coordinating entire shop reorganizations and relocations (perfect opportunity to implement LEAN Six Sigma principles!), and expediting the repair of broken equipment.

My first internship was for ASIMIS (Aircraft Structural Integrity Management Information Systems), a group comprised of engineers and programmers that analyzes flight data as it relates to crack growth propagation in an airframe. My projects focused on modernizing and improving the Air Force's process of flight data analysis. My second internship was for the 76 Commodities Maintenance Group on a team converting an old General Motors plant to an Air Force production facility. This involved purchasing and relocating equipment, installing utility upgrades, and designing tools and fixtures.
