August 2013 - September 2014: fulltime onsiteMost recently, I'm working on a project with Node.js that's both laying down the groundwork for a new app, and also the pattern for future apps to build on.I've helped build the frontend for a satellite imaging scheduler, which gives external customers insight on the images and videos scheduled to be taken on future satellite passes around the Earth. I helped transition the code to Backbone.js, which was a large project in itself.Technologies used: Backbone.js and Underscore.js, Leaflet.js, RequireJS, jQuery (with plenty of native JS), SASS, Mustache templates.May 2012 - August 2013: contract, remoteBuilt dashboards for monitoring live satellite telemetry. Also worked on laying down a shared "bootstrapping" frontend framework for several map-centric applications, as well as a rewrite of an application used to find satellite imagery based on a set of criteria.

I maintained the weekly blog (http://jsmag.com/blog/) and the monthly news column, keeping up with the latest happenings in the JavaScript community. This sometimes included a solo podcast each week.

Rebuilt CNET mobile with two other coworkers. In the process helped build a Node.js-based platform that other CBS Interactive properties started developing on (Smartplanet Mobile, etc).I was responsible for implementing much of the frontend, which included building a highly performant image/content carousel completely from scratch. Much of this was built with performance and fast-loading pages as a primary concern, and this became very much a reality with the help of a highly optimized frontend coupled with a very responsive Node.js-powered backend.

Yahoo! Tiger Team: October 2010-April 2011Collaborated to create original internal HTML5/CSS3 and Mobile training.On the planning committee for the upcoming Yahoo-internal Frontend Summit 2011.Investigated the technologies needed and scoped time estimates for in-progress projects (ask for details).Yahoo! Mobile: July 2009-October 2010Maintained the Blueprint platform, an XML-based language that allows developers to code a webpage once and leave it to Blueprint to properly render the content for thousands of mobile devices, from the iPhone to very old phones. Debugged HTML/CSS rendering issues on a variety of mobile browsers: Safari, Android, BlackBerry RIM, Windows Mobile IE, Nokia Webkit, Samsung Netfront, etc.Initiated and organized the Mobile Developer Summit 2010, an internal conference attended by over 150 developers that was the first of its kind. Worked to form a small committee to organize the conference, as well as to reach out to speakers. I delivered a short keynote as well as a very short talk about the Blueprint platform.Submitted a paper on mobile caching (iOS and Android) that was accepted for a poster presentation at Yahoo's Tech Pulse 2010.Delivered an introduction to HTML5 talk before Summer Hack Day 2010.

Primary job responsibilities include running mobile games through test plans and identifying issues inherent in game design or due to phone limitations. This position expanded to greater responsibilities, including rewriting test documentation into more user-friendly language for QA departmental use. I also learned a bit about debugging certain problems, especially audio issues.

Primary job responsibilities included professionally assisting university staff and faculty with computer problems and upgrades. This included problem solving over the phone, via email, and hands-on. I learned a great deal from this job about how to talk to upset customers in a calm and professional manner.
