Mesoscale Materials Lab, Eastman Kodak Corporate Research

 Nano and Meso Structured Materials - designed surface active molecules that self-assemble to create micellar templates for forming functional metallic, polymeric and/or colloidal conductive or porous nano-structures. Created metallic nanostructures and assessed correlations between morphology and functionality. Functional Membranes – designed aqueous and solvent based material technology for porous polymeric meso and nano structured films. Designed morphology for stimuli responsive permeability, conductivity and optical properties.

Printing Solutions Science And Technology Center, Kodak Corporate Research

 Inkjet Ink Development - Worked to develop new inks with improved image quality and substrate latitude through addition of colloidal, polymeric and nano-particulate additives modulating low shear viscosity, shear thinning, elasticity, wetting and surface tension.  Electrophotographic Toner Development – Worked to understand the fundamental physics controlling the design of novel architecture particles.

Formulation Science Lab, Global Manufacturing Technology Organization

 Created solubility parameter models to guide formulation of stable polymer, dye and colloidal systems in organic solvents. Developed experimental method for determining Solubility Parameters and compared to computations.  Thermal Dye Transfer Products (2005-2006) – Technical contributor on 3 successful new product development teams. Worked on 5 manufacturing crisis teams developing formulation solutions that were cashed for $3.9M cost savings. Inkjet Products (2004) - Technical contributor to 2 inkjet media commercialization projects. Worked on fundamental microporous inkjet receiver design. Performed formulation experiments and fixed $450K manufacturing upset.  Health Imaging Products (2004) - Technical contributor to new Aqueous dry silver photothermographic product. Performed osmotic analysis and formulalated stable topcoat allowing successful coating with reduced coating defects.

Melt Science Lab, Global Manufacturing Technology Organization

 Developed quantitative tools for assessing solution stability used by the Formulation Science Lab to diagnose and fix multimillion dollar manufacturing problems. Invented and patented a bench scale osmometer for complex multiphase solutions. Collaborated to develop a multi-layer multi-component diffusion model based upon osmotic pressure data. Developed imaging experiments to measure wave instabilities in multilayer thin film coatings and developed guidelines to avoid them.  Motion Picture Products (1998-2004) - Technical contributor to commercialization teams for 8 successful motion picture films. Worked on 2 Kaizen teams and eliminated root cause of manufacturing streaks and wave defect waste. Solvent Products (2000-2003, 2005) - Technical contributor to 2 new thermal dye sublimation products. Selected solvents for solubility and mottle control. Found and eliminated root cause of ~$3M Dryview manufacturing upset. Yielded Annual waste savings estimated at $3.5-4M with an additional ~$8M improved productivity. Lead crisis team which found root cause of Graphics Document Imaging imperfections; worked on Triacetate Durability, and Laser Graphics kaizen teams which lead to more than $1M annual waste reduction.
