DAVID CHAN Artist, lecturer at the National Institute of Education (Adjunct)- Visual Performing Arts and Nanyang Technological University (Adjunct) -School of Arts Design and Media, Founder of Art Project Lab LLP, Artist Mentor (AISS).David Chan is a full-time artist and also an earnest arts educator. He won the 23rd UOB Painting of the Year – Representational medium category award and the 41st UOB Painting of the Year – bronze award. Comfortable in sculpture and painting, his subject matters revolve around human behaviour and representations of social commentary. He has exhibited in several countries, including China, America, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Korea, Beirut and Malaysia. In 2011, his work was selected for the 54th Venice Biennale at the Fondazione Claudio Buziol. The same work travelled to the Wereldmuseum Rotterdam in the Netherlands in 2012. In 2016, David was invited to participate in the 5th Singapore Biennale, Atlas of Mirrors, where he created a 23-meter outdoor sculpture on the National Museum of Singapore lawn.In 2011 and 2017, David was nominated as one of the top “50 Movers & Shakers” to look out for by Time Out Singapore and Singapore Tatler. In addition, in 2013, David was featured on the cover of World Sculpture News as an artist to look out for. The six-page interview covered his artistic journey and various artistic skills.Apart from making art, David also lectures at the National Institute of Education (NIE) and the School of Art Design & Media (ADM) at the National Technological University (NTU). He is also an active artist mentor in the Artist in School Scheme (AISS), which is hosted by the National Arts Council.
