At the end of March 2019 I retired from PwC as a restructuring partner where I had operated across the middle market. As an accountant and an insolvency practitioner, I worked with a variety of company boards and financial stakeholders on business reviews, refinancings and business sales, as well as managing insolvency scenarios. I understand the dynamics of different and competing stakeholders and have a proven track record of achieving optimal outcomes.I have experience across many sectors but in particular, leisure, construction and real estate. My career span’s nearly 40 years in the City, underpinned by significant banking experience at Standard Chartered Bank and then Hambros Bank, where I helped to establish the first restructuring workout team before joining PwC in 1998.My last assignments at PwC illustrated the range of my work :• Advising the directors of a small construction business through a protracted cash crisis;• Working with the principal creditor in a consumer products business to achieve a balance sheet restructure and avoid insolvency;• Special Manager of Carillion running the facilities management business which employed 7000 people providing 24x7 services to hospitals, schools and other public and private sector businesses whilst facilitating transition to alternative providers.Following retirement from PwC in March 2019, I have been appointed a non-executive director of FRP Advisory, a national restructuring business. Within my first year, the business listed on AIM and I am the senior independent director and chair of the audit committee. I also act as an independent adviser and utilise my broad experience and business skills to support companies in challenging situations through stakeholder management, financial focus and option assessments.I work for a couple of growth funds operating in the middle market and I also took a director appointment to assist Australian liquidators working on an international group. I have also now taken director appointments to assist one of the funds. Since March 2020, I have been working most specifically with one fund across their extensive portfolio and all together have worked with more than 50 companies in this time. The type of work has included financial forecasting, cash management, cost reduction, restructuring options analysis and advising on business acquisitions. The main sectors have been retail, leisure and business services.
