  • Fillauer Companies
    Warehouse Team Lead
    Fillauer Companies Nov 1993 - Jul 1997
    Chattanooga, Tn, Us
    • The warehouse inventory had grown to a point where the physical limitations of warehouse space had been reached. As new items were stocked, they were placed according to expediency instead of being integrated within the existing stock categories. New items were located in separate areas where order pull personnel had to make separate trips outside the original category-based stock location process to fulfill orders. Previously new items were stocked based on needed space for the item instead of being located within the original category based stock location process. Outdated products remained within the original stock categories and needed to be returned for credit to manufacturers or vendors. Restocking operations were delayed until order processing operations were completed, resulting in increased temporary personnel staffing, man-hours and overtime costs. Product damage also resulted in haphazard stocking due to time constraints from restocking and order fulfillment operations by warehouse personnel, resulting in personal injury incidents and equipment damage.• RESULTS: Overall product inventory was reduced by 1/3 eliminating items that were identified as slow-moving or were stocked by special ordered items that were cancelled by clients and not delivered. Warehouse hardware used to stock product was optimized to accommodate seldom used items higher up while more popular items were located closer to the ground allowing for faster order fulfillment and restocking operations. All items were placed in established stocking categories allowing for warehouse personnel to stock and pull items based on familiarity instead of bin label locations assigned by the inventory database. Warehouse operations saw dramatic decreases in time spent on order fulfillment and restocking, eliminating overlapping operations. product damage incidents dropped below corporate standards, division target quarterly sales goals were met, and client base increased.
