Duties within my 10 month trainee position included: • Phase 1 habitat surveying• Wildflower quadrat surveys• Improving urban areas for wildlife• Managing and working with volunteers• Wildflower identification• SUDS/Eco Swale maintenance, planningand creation• Tree sapling removal and scrubmaintenance• Brush-cutting, strimming and hedge laying• Use of herbicides: knapsack sprayer andstump treatment using brush or syringe• Plug planting and wild flower seed sowingon diverse sites using various methods• Bird identification (British specialist)• Maintenance and use of BCS power scythe,rekord Seed harvester & hay rake• Japanese knotweed herbicide stumptreating, safe disposal and burning• Bird-hide maintenance, construction andjoinery• Lone working/team working• Experience of writing and delivering riskassessments• Tool store work• ICT skills, fluent in Microsoft Office• Woodland, wetland and meadowmanagement• Talking to the general public; includinggathering information for surveying• Post & rail fencing trained• Habitat creation and development• Great crested newt eft surveying withecologist John Durkin• Tree identification• Charcoal production trained• Willow revetment trained• Public speaking at official events within theconservation and wider community• Cetacean trained by ERIC• MARINElife identification of whales, dolphinsand seabirds• British amphibian identification and handling• Protected mammal trained• Control of invasive species trained• Moorland habitat training with AONB‘Wildwatch Scheme’• Familiar with ‘The Wildlife And CountrysideAct 1981’• ‘Environmental Legislation Workshop’ withDurham Wildlife Trust• ‘Northumberland Education BusinessEmployability Award’• Competent in manual handling• Experience in the design of the digitalenvironment (website, blog, social media)
