And always try to have as much fun as possible in service of the customer.4. Always throw yourself and your staff under the bus but never a superior or customer.5. Be only as firm or hard on vendors and staff as you would yourself...and prove it every chance you get.6. Fall in love with the phrases "I'm sorry" and "I don't know, but I will find out". And use and encourage their use liberally.7. Never pass up a direct opportunity to positively impact the bottom line.8. Help your staff with on the fly prioritization by teaching them to understand that working on what interests them is not the same as working on the interests of the organization...especially when the two are rarely misaligned.9. Help your staff learn the difficult "First Things First (Covey)" nuances between urgency and importance.10. Never discount "that which works" regardless of convention.11. Never assume that your superior knows your priorities and always do everything in your power to keep your superior from getting blindsided.12. Never forget that your superior's ways are higher than your own.
