With a career in the culinary arts spanning several continents and nearly 20 years, one thing I believe above all else is that there is no low food, only poor technique. Even something as mundane and seemingly boring as macaroni and cheese in the hands of a culinary craftsman becomes something remarkable. To do this, it takes training, skill, and a love for food and flavor to create memorable dining experiences.Food, cuisine, the culinary arts – whatever you call it, I have made it my life’s work in one way or another since as far back as I can remember. Growing up in Brisbane, Queensland in Australia then moving to London, England to run a few successful locations of Bass Brewery’s gastropubs only to land in Dayton, Ohio has exposed me to several culinary styles, flavors, and techniques that I incorporate into my work each and every day. Bringing my international flair as well as my resume full of great culinary experiences, challenges, skills, and lessons to my role at Bernstein’s Fine Catering is an exciting development for me. Bernstein’s has an established legacy in the Dayton region and joining this team is a great opportunity for me to deepen my roots in this vibrant community that I call home. What I’ve come to learn about myself is that my true passion and talent lie in the kitchen but working with an excellent team makes it that much better. At Bernstein’s, I want to do big things, namely high-profile events. It helps that I have honed a balance of confidence and caution through my career. I’m confident in my ability to achieve any professional goal I set, but I’m not so arrogant to believe that it will come easily. Everything worth accomplishing takes hard work.
