At Westwood I serve as the director for the string orchestra and teach several sections of the piano lab. With both these classes, students are challenged to think about expression and technique to convey their expressive voice. By being aware of technique, students are able to bring an awareness on how to communicate their ideas. Students are also engage with different facets of music such as improvising and arranging to create/alter music that they are influenced by. To reach different learners, students are learning music by ear, using music technology, and reading sheet music. By engaging with these different aspects of music, students are able to learn music more efficiently by connecting different parts of the brain.

Worcester, Ma

At Norback Elementary, I taught under the supervision of Harriet Forman. The grade levels I taught included students in kindergarten to sixth grade. I also facilitated lessons for students in the autism and special education classes. Lastly, I directed the fifth and sixth grade chorus. While at this placement I developed a stronger understanding of the Kodaly Method. The lessons I taught included singing, listening, recorder, music literacy, improvisation, and composition. In select grades, I also implemented several unit plans, for recorder, and composition.My second placement I taught at Burncoat High school. I worked under the direction of Deborah Cole and Dani Rimoni. Along side Deborah Cole, I directed students in the orchestra, and Jazz Band. I also worked with Dani Rimoni with the string orchestra. In addition to these ensembles, I also facilitated lessons in the music magnet classes I-IV. Within these classes, students strengthened their skills in music history, music theory, ear training, music appreciation, and composition.

Woodland Elementary School

Neighborhood strings is an El Sistema based program that provides instruments and resources in order for students to learn a stringed instrument. As a peer mentor, I serve as a positive role model while assisting with daily activities. I taught lessons to the first year instrumentalist on rhythm, pitch, music literacy, and instrument care. I also helped teach students rounds, solfege with hand signs, and drumming. When needed, I substituted individual lessons for violinist and violist, and group classes. Neighborhood Strings Club (NS Club) is a group of older students who meet every Friday after rehearsal with mentors and the directors. With these students, I led discussions on how music has changed the world and how it continues to do so. With these students, I also facilitated lessons on how to improvise with stringed instruments. Students participated in the Fourth Annual Greater Boston El Sistema Showcase at the Boston Latin School. The NS club performed at the Worcester Public Library for the Center for Nonviolent Solutions' event "Cultivating Nonviolence: A celebration of peace education in our schools and Neighborhood." Most students also had the opportunity to take a stand against racism at the Worcester City Hall and performed several pieces. Lastly, the students regularly performed in recitals and concerts at Clark University and Straight Up Cafe.

University Of Massachusetts Amherst

While working with the Stonewall Center my primary role was to facilitate ally training by discussing LBGTQIA material with various organizations at UMass Amherst. By doing this we are increasing peoples awareness, and acceptance of people who are different from each other. These training also provide students/workers with the proper resources and vocabulary to handle various situations they may encounter. In addition to the ally training, I also constructed flyers and table-tents for events for the many events the Stonewall Center hosted.
