Teaching eighteenth-century British literature and first-year writing.

I was responsible for identifying, vetting, and pursuing federal grants for the national After-School All-Stars network, comprised of 19 chapters across 13 states. I also spearheaded ASAS' policy and advocacy work for the National headquarters.

I served as a grant writer and development officer for a non-profit that cut staff due to COVID-19, helping ASAS DC secure over $2.5 million in grants. The largest awards included a $90,000 grant from the DC Government, a $250,000 grant from the Diana Davis Foundation, and a $1.4 million grant that I personally wrote while working directly with the Executive Director of ASAS DC, awarded by the US Department of Education.

I worked for the Dean of the Graduate School writing literary reviews and memos with direct bearing on admissions and graduation procedures. I also performed research tasks, identified and interviewed prominent alumni, and did data-driven work tracking career outcomes of PhDs. In this role I was a colleague to administrators at all levels and in all departments of the Graduate School, giving me a broad understanding of the operations of a research institution.

I helped organize, catalog, and preserve the Marcus Garvey collection at the David M. Rubenstein Library, one of the largest archives on the Jamaican political activist in the world. My team designed an indexing system that would allow scholars to identify relevant materials within the enormous collection of unpublished holdings.

Working for the Center for Interdisciplinary Studies in Science and Cultural Theory, I helped organize three annual symposia, handling logistics and finances. I was also responsible for updating the CISSCT website, including using open-source software like GIMP for basic photo editing and design work.

I designed and taught a class on “Sports Writing,” for which I won a teaching award and placed in the top 5% of student evaluations across all professors and instructors at Duke.

I provided one-on-one writing feedback and small-group workshops for undergraduate and graduate students across the disciplines after receiving pedagogical training in writing and editing for different audiences.

I taught Geometry, Algebra, and Precalculus during accelerated summer sessions and the standard academic year.

My responsibilities included contacting partner organizations to track the status of their outreach efforts, as well as basic research and copy-editing tasks for the Communications department.

I was responsible for collating, digitizing, and indexing old case files that were being moved to off-site storage, as well as filing court documents on behalf of attorneys, assuring all procedures were followed and deadlines met.
