Experienced Software Engineering Manager with a passion for people. With a technical background in software engineering, tenacious curiosity, and love of collaborative problem solving, I have a proven track record for success in leading teams by meeting individuals where they are. I strongly believe our success as leaders is by creating more leaders.Working part time in CyberSecurity while studying Computer Science, writing scripts automating threat detection, I found appreciation of standard process when working with IT SLT on policy changes, controls, and evolving compliance mandates. Shortly after graduating, I was selected to join the Software Solutions division of the company. I leaned hard on my seniors to navigate the complexities of software engineering in a large organization. Fortunate to have strong mentors, I became the SharePoint SDE lead. Long hours, great opportunities, and passion to solve decades of company challenges provided true satisfaction of what I came to love most - leading my team to success. Here I learned that no challenge, project, or goal is unachievable given the right environment and frame of mind - both heavily influenced by leadership. Over time, I created successors in my team that reduced dependence on me. Once they were established, I took an opportunity to join a new organization that I felt could challenge me more and provide new opportunities to grow my leadership skills.I joined Anthem Inc. shortly after the acquisition of Amerigroup. With a background in Software Engineering, love of learning, and passion to make things easier for others, I took many opportunities to simplify, standardize, and solve long standing issues. Within three years, I was given the Tech Lead title, overseeing many scrum teams. We lead them through an Agile transformation that was so successful, the department was identified as most mature and the example for others. I do not take full credit as my leaders were extraordinary skilled in building effective teams, very wise in hand picking what external knowledge was needed versus things that must come from within the team. As I developed others to support staff growth, I started to be approached for management opportunities.Managing teams of talented IT professionals is very rewarding. Though my responsibilities have changed since the days of SDE, my passion for people has not and neither has my joy of solving problems. Sometimes a team needs someone to set direction, make difficult decisions, or advocate for them. Most often, they need someone to be present.
