I obtained my Ph.D. at the UCD School of Computer Science and Informatics in Dublin, Ireland, working on Machine Learning algorithms applied to protein structures. After my Ph.D., I extended my research to study how the genome is organized. My research has resulted in novel algorithms that have been influential in their respective fields. My achievements include:i) A new machine learning program to assess the quality of predicted protein structuresii) New algorithms to determine the three-dimensional structure of genomesiii) The integration of diverse data types to improve the quality of three-dimensional modelsIn particular, I generated the first high-resolution model of a human genomic region, the alpha-globin domain, and the first three-dimensional model of an entire bacterial genome, the Caulobacter Crescentus genome.I have been essential for the growth of the research line on genome structure determination, which started in 2008 with only two people and now employs twelve. I have been named “key personnel” in several awarded research grants, among which an HFSP Grant and an ERC Synergy Grant.As Staff Scientist at the Centre Nacional d’Anàlisi Genòmica (CNAG) - Centre de Regulació Genòmica (CRG) in Barcelona, I developed my own research line. To understand how genetic and epigenetic modifications impact the function and organization of chromatin in normal and disordered cells and how this influences gene regulation, I combine my expertise on Machine Learning and genome organization with graph theory.I co-supervised a Ph.D. student and supervised a M.Sc. student. My achievements qualify me as an expert in the field of genome organization, as proven by my teaching and publication records, the talks delivered at international conferences and my role as peer-reviewer for journals and grant proposals.At present, I am a Bioinformatics Manager at Igenomix, Valencia, Spain.
