About David Edis
I have been involved in helping to develop new minimal access approaches to the lumbar spine with 2 orthopaedic spine companies and together we have taught these procedures to many of my spine surgery colleagues. I have been on faculty for multiple education seminars since 2013. I am excited to have provided education to my asian surgical colleagues at seminars in Hong Kong, Singapore and Thailand. I have also been honoured to host a number of visiting surgeons from interstate and overseas to demonstrate these novel techniques in real world situations. I enjoy clinical research and I feel that within my above roles I will be able to generate many ongoing projects. In 2012 I supervised an honours Medical Student from UTAS researching the role of BMP-2 in lumbar spinal fusion. He had his research published in Spine in Jan 2014. I am currently working with another medical student from UTAS to collate the results of the last 2 years of work on a new minimal invasive inter body fusion technique (OLIF). This was presented at the SSA annual meeting in 2016.Along with a junior colleague we have presented our experience with 100 cortical screw cases in lumbar spine fusion surgeries at SSA, ISSLS @ Spine Week, and the 2016 AOA national scientific meeting. I am now excited to announce that I have taken a VMO appointment at Mulgrave Private Hospital in Melbourne, Vic. Mulgrave Private have invested in 3 critical technologies for spine surgery. They were the first to introduce the Mazor Renaissance Spine Robot to Victoria and have over 3 years experience with its use. They also have the Siemans Zeego Hybrid theatre imaging system that can provide CT images to ensure implants are optimally placed. They also have onsite the EOS spine imaging system for perioperative workup for spine deformity management. I believe this is the world's best technology to enable surgeons to provide optimal care for patients having spinal instrumentation.
